Who: Families looking to get spooky
What:
Decorate cupcakes, drink cider, play games, do crafts and, of course,
take a trip down the haunted dungeon. The costume parade is at 5 p.m.,
so kids should come dressed if they choose.

What: A haunted house put on by the staff of the Montclair YMCA, a tour takes 25 minutes. Free T-shirts for kids while supplies last.

Who: All ice cream lovers
What: Pumpkin painting contest, ice cream eating contests, clowns, balloons, live music, games, free prizes

Why: Because you aren’t really on a diet anyway.
Cost: Free, but you must pay for hot dogs, cider and other concessions

Montclair Farmer’s Market
Who: Anyone who needs food
What: Organic and locally grown produce, plants and treats
Where: Walnut Street Train Station Parking Lot (don’t worry, there’s no train on the weekends)
When: 8 a.m.-2 p.m.
Why:
Small children are easily entertained by the recycled-bag-carrying
crowd at this packed weekly venue. There is often musical
entertainment, plus PAWS sets up cages with furry kittens that are up
for adoption. Take the kids this week; maybe buy a pumpkin. The market
is only open Saturdays through Nov. 22.
Cost: Selections can be a little pricey, but quality is very good

Crane Park Festival

Who: Families

This free event was originally scheduled for Sept. 27 but rain kept the
festival away. That’s great for any of us who missed it and need
weekend kid-friendly activities.
Where: Glenridge and Greenwood avenues at Lackawanna Plaza
When: 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
Why: Event includes carnival games, storytelling, face painting, taekwon-do demonstrations, and a special musical guest.

Drop-in Crafts: Leaf Rubbings
Who: Kids of all ages
What: Welcome
fall by making a collage with lovely fallen leaves. Children may bring
their own leaves or use some of ours to make a unique work of art.
