Winter in the Garden

What: A family-friendly winter event in the garden. Activities will include maple sugaring, bird-watching, tree ID, seed-starting, crafts and warm refreshments.

Black History Month Celebration
Who: All ages.
What: Celebrate Black History Month with an African drum and dance performance by the Umoja Dance Company and hear special guest speakers including Montclair’s own renaissance civic leader Guy Whitlock and young adult fiction writer Tracey Baptiste whose novel, Angel’s Grace, was named “one of the one hundred best books for reading and sharing” by New York City librarians.

Montclair Art Museum’s Imagination Station – In Motion (Rose Piper)
Who: Families of all ages.
What: A drop-in weekend program that will be held in the Museum galleries and will focus on a different artwork or theme each week. Families will be engaged in active looking, lively discussion, interactive activities and scavenger hunts, and have a unique opportunity to sketch in the galleries.

Three Day Beekeeping Course
Who: Ages 12 to adult.
What: Short course presented by the Essex County Beekeeping Society for new beekeepers as well as those in need of a refresher. Everything you need to know from purchasing and assembling equipment to harvesting, extracting and bottling honey. Course also includes disease and mite management. The Wind in the Willows

What: Adapted from the book by Kenneth Grahame, this play follows Toad, the rich playboy of the animal kingdom, who has an enthusiasm for cars but has never learned to drive. Toad’s friends try to ground him for his own safety, but ultimately Toad lands in jail. In his absence, the Weasels take over Toad Hall, and Toad returns to find his elegant mansion in shambles. Can Toad’s friends drive the Weasels out and restore Toad to his senses?

Montclair Art Museum’s Imagination Station – Hot Art (Willie Cole)

Cinderella at the JCC MetroWest Center

Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company: Year of the Tiger

The Wind in the Willows

What: Adapted from the book by Kenneth Grahame, this play follows Toad, the rich playboy of the animal kingdom, who has an enthusiasm for cars but has never learned to drive. Toad’s friends try to ground him for his own safety, but ultimately Toad lands in jail. In his absence, the Weasels take over Toad Hall, and Toad returns to find his elegant mansion in shambles. Can Toad’s friends drive the Weasels out and restore Toad to his senses?

Dinosaur Weekend

Junior paleontologists.

What: Work with architect Stephen W. Schwartz of Building Blocks Workshops to visualize your community as you’ve never seen it before. Families will work in groups of four to turn a photograph of a specific building in town into a LEGO model. The models will then be placed on a 30 x 20 foot map of downtown Montclair.

What: A program that introduces children to the museum and provides them with an artistic social outing. Storytelling in the galleries is provided courtesy of the Children’s Services Department of the Montclair Public Library. Kids Workshop: Car Display
Who: Young carpenters ages 5 – 12.
What: The workshops teach children do-it-yourself skills and tool safety, while at the same time helping to instill a sense of accomplishment. In addition to the newly constructed project kit, each child receives a kid-sized orange apron, similar to The Home Depot associates’ aprons, and an achievement pin.

The Crucible

Sesame Street Live: When Elmo Grows Up

Little Explorers Nature Program
Who: Ages 2 to 5.
What: A child-caregiver class that uses stories, walks and crafts to develop an awareness and appreciation of science and nature for the child as well as the caregiver. Each week, a different nature or science topic is covered.

Teen Dating Abuse Discussion
Who: Parents of tweens and teens.
What: One out of three teens is in an abusive dating relationship, yet over eighty percent of their parents are unaware that their children are involved in such a situation. Learn how to recognize the warning signs of dating abuse and how to talk to your child about developing healthy relationships. This event is being presented by the Montclair Education Association PRIDE in Public Schools Committee and the Montclair High School Key Club.
