Montclair Art Museum’s Free Family Day

What: Museum-wide Family Day celebrates the nature of African American art and culture through dance themes and choreography. Montclair State University’s Dance Department, both faculty and students, will be performing works by various African American choreographers throughout the day. A Force for Change: African American Art and the Julius Rosenwald Fund exhibition will provide the perfect inspiration for a full day of Museum exploration, including gallery activities and fun art projects for the entire family to enjoy.

Spin for a Child
Who: Grown-ups who want to exercise for a cause.
What: An indoor cycling event to raise funds for children living in foster care. Last year this event raised over $47,000 to benefit children in need in the Essex County Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA).  This year spinners are given the opportunity to form teams.
Where: 3Sixty Cycling Studio, 131 Glenridge Avenue, Montclair, NJ  07042.
When: Sunday, March 7 at 1:00, 2:15, 3:30, and 4:45.
Cost:  Each participant is asked to raise $500.
Build Montclair in LEGO
Who: Kids ages 5-14 with adult. 

What: Work with architect Stephen W. Schwartz of Building Blocks Workshops to visualize your community as you’ve never seen it before. Families will work in groups of four to turn a photograph of a specific building in town into a LEGO model. The models will then be placed on a 30 x 20 foot map of downtown Montclair.

Kids Workshop: Rain Gauge
Who: Young carpenters ages 5 – 12.
What: The workshops teach children do-it-yourself skills and tool safety, while at the same time helping to instill a sense of accomplishment. In addition to the newly constructed project kit, each child receives a kid-sized orange apron, similar to The Home Depot associates’ aprons, and an achievement pin.
