Sheep Shearing Day at Turtle Back Zoo
Who:

What: See the sheep welcome in the summer by losing their wool coats. A professional shearer will be doing continual demonstrations at the Essex Farm Petting Zoo area.

Montclair Memorial Day Service
Who:
All ages.
What: Annual Memorial Day service. Mayor Jerry Fried will preside as Master of Ceremonies.
Where: Edgemont Park, Valley Road, montclair, NJ, 07043. In the event of rain, service will be held at Municipal Council Chambers at 205 Claremont Avenue.

Glen Ridge Memorial Day Parade
Who: All ages.
What: Memorial day parade, service and town picnic with entertainment, amusements and food.
Where: Parade starts at Sherman Avenue and Baldwin Street. The march will proceed to the memorial in front of Ridgewood Avenue School, where the traditional service of remembrance will take place. The town picnic will be at Hurrell Field after the service.
When: Monday, May 31. Parade starts at 11 am and everything follows.

Nutley Memorial Day Parade
Who:
All ages.
What: 91 st annual Memorial Day service. Opening Ceremonies in the Nutley Park Oval with parade to immediatley follow.

Bloomfield Memorial Day Service and Parade

What: Services take place on the lawn of the firehouse, conducted by the Bloomfield Exempt Firemen’s Association and FMBA Local No. 19. The parade kicks off from Brookside Park and proceed down Broad Street. Following the parade, there will be a picnic at the Newark-Bloomfield Elks Lodge.
Where:  Service – Lawn of the firehouse / Parade start – Brookside Park and proceed down Broad Street / Picnic – Newark-Bloomfield Elks Lodge at 26 Bloomfield Avenue, Bloomfield.

Memorial Day at CMOM

Who: Kids from birth and up.
What: Special Memorial Day events are planned throughout the day. Meet people serving in the military who will tell stories and lead a mini bootcamp demonstration, make thank you cards for our military personnel, sing patriotic songs, make a thank you collage and more. Bring in old cell phones to donate to the Cell Phones For Soldiers program.

Astrofest

Climb on a giant inflatable model of the space shuttle. Make and fly a miniature model rocket. Explore the phases of the Moon and the night sky. Experience astronaut training. Planetarium shows will run on the hour featuring One World, One Sky at 11 am and 1 pm, Origins of Life at 12 and 4 pm and Zula Patrol at 2 and 3 p.m.

What: A day filled with music and entertainment by some of Montclair’s finest talent and some special guests. This year Anwar Robinson, a former Montclair High School student and 2005 American Idol finalist, will take the stage and then host a meet and greet open to all Rockin attendees. Also attending are: Mayor Jerry Fried, Grammy-nominated R&B artist Maiysha, Montclair’s The Flemtones, MHS’s Passing Notes, The Glenfield Jazz Band, MHS’s West African Drum Club and MHS’s renowned hip-hop dance performers. Tour de Montclair & Y Healthy Kids Day

What: Bike&Walk Montclair and the Montclair YMCA host this joint celebration during National Bike Month and in conjunction with May in Montclair. This year cyclists of all abilities are invited to ride one of three routes: a short car-free loop within the park, a medium on-road route or a longer route throughout Montclair. Montclair Art Museum’s Park Bench - Color!

Garden SK8
Who: Beginners and intermediate skater ages 6 and up
What: GardenSK8 will be hosting a 5 week summer “Learn 2 Skate” clinic. The clinic will consist of 1 hour sessions where the participants will learn the fundamentals of skateboarding.
Where: GardenSK8 Indoor Skatepark, 321 Changebrook Road, Pine Brook, NJ.
When: Sunday, May 2 from 9:15 am – 10:15 am.
Cost: $25 per walk-in session. Skaters are invited to stay and skate after each clinic at no additional charge.

Montclair Art Museum’s Imagination Station – Memories & Heritage 
Who: Families of all ages.
What: A drop-in weekend program that will be held in the Museum galleries and will focus on a different artwork or theme each week. Families will be engaged in active looking, lively discussion, interactive activities and scavenger hunts, and have a unique opportunity to sketch in the galleries.

Free Comic Book Day at the Library
Who: Comic book afficionados.
What: Choose your favorite free Gold Sponsor comic book donated by Time Warp Comics of Cedar Grove when you visit the Children’s Department. The comic book is an original American art form created in the early 20th century. The medium has growth considerably since, and today it features a wide range of diverse storylines that are fascinating and fun to read. If it’s been a while since you’ve read a comic book, come in and celebrate our annual Free Comic Book Day, held every year since 2002 on the first Saturday of May.

Free Comic Book Day

Kids Workshop: Picket Fence Planter
Who: Young carpenters ages 5 – 12.
What: The workshops teach children do-it-yourself skills and tool safety, while at the same time helping to instill a sense of accomplishment. In addition to the newly constructed project kit, each child receives a kid-sized orange apron, similar to The Home Depot associates’ aprons, and an achievement pin.

Good Night Moon & The Runaway Bunny

Beefsteak Dinner Fundraiser Deadline
Who: Hungry adults who want to support a good cause.
What: The Fairview Elementary Home and School Association is hosting an evening of entertainment by the Moonlight Drifters as well as a silent auction of sports memorabilia, jewelry and other items to support the school. A 50/50 raffle will be held and door prizes will be given out. Tickets include all you can eat filet mignon, onion rings, french fries, salad, dessert and soft drinks. A vegetarian dinner is also available, and a cash bar will be open throughout the evening.

Worldwide Vegan Bake Sale
