Children’s Summer Sail
Who: Sea-faring families with children 5 to 12.
What: Take a guided tour of the Hudson River with marine biologist and Tenafly Nature Center‘s Executive Director to discover the life beneath the surface. From the beautifully restored 1928 two-masted, 115-foot oyster schooner find crabs, fish and other creatures of the Hudson River during this three hour relaxing trip for parents and hands-on learning experience for kids.
Where: Alpine Boat Basin, Exit 2 on Palisades Interstate Parkway, Alpine, NJ.
When: Saturday, July 17 at 1:30 p.m.

Crafty Toddlers 
Who: Ages 2 – 4.
What: Play with paint, pinch and pound clay, collage with glue and explore different art materials all in an environment that encourages messy creativity. Runs every Saturday with a different project each week.
Where: Express Yourself Studio, 1912 Springfield Avenue, Maplewood, NJ.  
When: Saturdays from 10 am – 11 am.

Studio Saturdays 
Who: Ages 5 – 12.
What: A drop-in art workshop where you can participate in a different guided art project each week exploring a new art master and medium. Runs every Saturday. 
Where: Express Yourself Studio, 1912 Springfield Avenue, Maplewood, NJ.  
When: Saturdays from 1 pm – 2 pm and 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm.

One-Day Watercolor Workshop for Teens  
Who: Artists 12 and up.
What: Explore the endless possibilities of watercolor. Experiment with various types of paint, paper and brushes as well as non-traditional materials for some surprising effects. Material are provided, but please bring three color photos of your favorite person, place and thing.
Where: Montclair Art Museum, 3 South Mountain Avenue, Montclair, NJ 07042
When: Saturday, July 17 from 9:30 am – 3:30 pm.

Who: Teens ages 15 and older.
What: The New Jersey Youth Theatre’s producton of Jonathan Larson’s Rent, a rock-tinged musical based on the classic opera La Boheme, an unforgettable story about a group of young artists falling in love, finding their voices, and living for today.

Saturday Storytime at Barnes and Noble

Who: Young children and their parents or guardians.

What: Join Miss Lisa and her sidekick, Uncle Harold for storytime with stories, songs, dance, coloring, and puppets!

New Jersey Jackals: Fireworks Spectacular!!

Who: All ages.

What: Cheer on the New Jersey Jackals in their home game against Brockton with the Fireworks Spectacular.

8th Annual New Jersey Ice Cream Festival

Who: Ice cream lovers young and old.

What: The 8th Annual Ice Cream Festival including tastings, ice cream eating contests, games, rides, and entertainment. If you make your own ice cream, you can join Montclair’s own Applegate Farm as they compete to be named the best in New Jersey!

Where: Washington Street, Toms River, NJ.  

When: Saturday, July 17 from 11:30 am – 5 pm.

Cost: Free admission and parking. Tasting kits $6 each in advance and $7 at event.


Feast of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel

Who: All ages.

What: The annual Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Feast continues in a weekend of 50/50s, popper instant games, entertainment, and loads of delicious food. Enjoy musical entertainment from Shirley Alston Reeves, the lead singer of the Shirelles, and compete in “Montclair Idol.” Super 50/50 tickets must be purchased in advance from the church rectory. The vespers of Our lady of Mt. Carmel will be celebrated at 7:30 pm. Don’t miss the indoor flea market either!

Kidding Around 
Who: All ages.
What: Brooklyn Indie Market and The {NewNew} continue their series of sustainable living collaborations with Kidding Around, a shop-and-swap event focused on tots through tweens. Handmade offerings by local indie designers specializing in children’s clothes toys and other themed goods will be on hand with their wares, while kids are encouraged to bring a gentle used book to swap for one they haven’t read yet.
