The Might Be Giants Concert
Who: Families with children of all ages.
What: Presented by The Bowery Presents, the highly acclaimed, multi-Grammy winning, alternative rock group They Might Be Giants will be presenting their brand new family oriented educational CD/DVD Here Comes Science. TMBG has comes up with a CD filled with songs about topics that would usually put kids to sleep. After all, who wants to learn about photosynthesis, evolution, the solar system, and the scientific method? However, now TMBG are giving kids a new fun way to rock out and learn all about these topics and more in a way that will stay in their minds forever! Here Comes the Science is one of a collection of TMBG’s Here Come… CDs that introduce educational topics to kids through music.

Stroll ‘n’ Roll 2010
Who: Everyone including people with disabilities.
What: Promote health and disability services in the 9th Annual Kessler Foundation Stroll ‘n’ Roll. Walk, run, roll, or rollerblade around the park to show you support for research that promotes the independence of people of all abilities. Fun for the whole family. Exhibition booths, food, music, and kid-friendly activities will be available. Proceeds used to fund Foundation’s research, community employment programs, and ThinkFirst. Come rain or shine!

Tot Traditions
Who: Families with toddlers.
What: Meet once a month to learn all about Jewish life and tradition through song, dance, craft, holiday, food, games, and Hebrew language. Led by Rabbi Groffman and Lori Serbin Lasday, a nationally renowned teacher and expert in creative arts, learn about a different Jewish holiday every month.

Fall Art Class Enrollment

Harvest Festival: A Celebration of Early American Life
Who: All ages.
What: Come celebrate the harvest like the early Americans. Enjoy live music, storytelling, petting zoo, pony rides, games, and crafts. Special demonstrations include a Native American Lodge and Artifact display, colonial and Native American crafts, blacksmithing, paper making, log sawing, shingle splitting, and scarecrow building. Lifeline Challenge to Healthy Living
Who: All ages.
What: Walk or ride your way through the Lifeline Challenge sponsored by Clara Maass Medical Center. All proceeds will go towards funding for school exercise programs in Essex, Hudson, Bergen, and Passaic Counties. The Lifeline Challenge strives to empower children and their families towards living healthy and active lives to aid the prevention of obesity.

Cinderella! Cinderella!

What: This isn’t your usual production of Cinderella. This hilarious adaption of your favorite fairytale features a plain looking Cinderella with big feet and her gorgeous step-sisters as they compete for the hand of the handsome princes. Of course, Cinderella has help from Tom the lovable cat and her vision-imparied fairy Godmother.

Hairspray Extended! at the Papermill Playhouse
Who: Families with children ages 4 and older.
What: Hairspray, the classic 60s musical, is going for an extended performance schedule at the Papermill Playhouse! Originally ending on October 17, Hairspray directed by Matt Lenz will now be showing at Papermill from September 22 through October 24. That’s one full more week to come and see what is sure to be an amazing performance.

Jake’s Ride for Dystonia Research 2010
Who: All ages.
What: Run, walk, or ride to help raise funds for Jake’s Ride for Dystonia Research 2010. After two years of fundraising, Jake’s Ride has been able to reach almost $500,000 for dystonia research and research grants. Route options range from 1, 5, 10, and 20 miles with different routes for walkers and riders. Participants in the race must be at least 5 year old.

9th Annual Latino Film Festival

What: Montclair High School students will be presenting four films that celebrate Hispanic heritage and cultural influences. Each film will be introduced by a Hispanic guest speaker.

NJSO Block Party

What: After NJPAC’s September 26 events, the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra will be hosting an outdoor block party! NJSO’s music director Jacques Lacombe and NJSO musicians will be leading the event with musical performances in various traditions. Choirs and orchestras from Bethany Baptist Church, Metropolitan Baptist Church, Bradford Hayes’ Jazz Quartet, vocalist Kevin Maynor, and the Luisito Ayala Orchestra will be performing with NJSO.

Film Screening of “A Small Act”

What: A Small Act is a film by Jennifer Arnold about two unlikely philanthropists whose modest charity acts domino into the power of giving no matter how small. Their $15 scholarship help a Kenyan boy attend secondary school and move on to Harvard Law and then moving on to establish a foundation helping support education in Kenya.
